@junohuey got so many great photos in Bandon, Oregon! This assignment has been an incredible gift, sharing this time with my kids. Thank you @nature_org! Check out @junohuey and @hawkeyehuey’s shots from this night on their feeds!
I got to do one of the most amazing assignments of my life recently with my daughter @junohuey (age 4) and my son @hawkeyehuey (age 9) for @nature_org. This is Juno and I at Bandon Beach, Oregon: a place that made some of my favorite memories from my own childhood, and my own first photos with a Polaroid. So it seemed like the perfect place to take my own kids to explore and make photos with them. (I can’t wait to show you the photos they made!!!) What are your favorite places to photograph? Show us by entering the 2019 @nature_org Photo Contest.
Remember, you don’t have to go to the far edges of the world to take great photos and you don’t need expensive gear! Sometimes it’s just outside your door and with your phone camera! And take your kids with you!
SOUND ON🔊 Louie Brings Plenty sends a powerful prayer out over the badlands towards the Stronghold on the #PineRidgeIndianReservation, South Dakota. Stronghold Table was the site of the last Ghost Dances before the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890, and a protected sanctuary for the Lakota in the battles that followed. #Oglala#Lakota#MitakuyeOyasin
Today is the day Custer wore an arrow shirt. Today is the day, in 1876, that the #Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapahoe kicked the 7th Cavalry’s ass at the Battle of the Greasy Grass (AKA: Little Big Horn, AKA: Custer’s Last Stand). They were lead by Crazy Horse and Gall, and inspired by the visions of Sitting Bull. The anniversary is celebrated every June 25-26 in Kiza Park on the #PineRidgeIndianReservation with horse races and other community events. In this image (shot for @natgeo) riders gather at the top of a hill before the start of a race. You can see an old video of this day my wife and I pieced together for the @smithsonianmagazine at
