It’s interesting what we do when our systems get disrupted. There’s a poem by Japanese Poet Mizuta Masahide “Barns burnt down — now
I can see the moon.” Whenever there is a substantial pause or disrupt it pops into my head. The struggle and the blessings commingling the way they do. The power has been turned off in vast stretches of California for a couple days now, (an effort to prevent fires) resulting in a kind of pause. People are out walking midday, kids home from school, businesses closed, cars lined up at the few gas stations that accept cash; the hamster wheel stopped for a moment to give us pause about who and what we depend on, how many things we take for granted, privileges that carry heavy price tags. My kids noticed that they were tired earlier, since it had been dark for hours and there’s not a lot they are accustomed to doing by candlelight. I finished a book with a flashlight, they went to bed. It was quiet except for the purring of generators. The stars were extra bright in the extra dark darkness. Who else is going through a life transition right now? Give me a 🐛 or 🦋 in the comments. Tell me about it.
When people are in transition; moving on from one chapter of their life to the next, you need to give them space.
Oftentimes, it’s space that they don’t even realise they needed in the first place. Respect that need. And if you’re a genuine true friend, just hang around close by, ready to pick up a call, in case they ever need you. #life#friendship#phases#intransition
